case study | Italian Journal
Where it Started
The Italian Journal magazine was originally an academic publication with lengthy articles sans photography. The magazine, which was revived with editorial and art direction by Rome Design Agency, historically had a distinctive blue cover. However, it lacked imagery. Furthermore, the content lacked web presence and remained only on print.
What we Did
The first thing we did was refresh the cover, retaining the iconic blue, but adding a “window” containing a work of art. Besides the printed product, the magazine was also translated into an interactive online experience, including a cultural blog associated with its sponsor, the Italian Academy Foundation, Inc., whose brand we also designed.
The Result
As a result, the Italian Journal has been refreshed to appeal to both long-time and new readers with an exciting cover and a functional, visually appealing mise-en-page. As the legacy of the Italian Journal and Italian Academy Foundation, Inc. continues to expand, the brand now has both a unified virtual and physical home for all media streams.
